DURS Freshers’ Reception, Farewell & New Committee Announced at DU TSC Auditorium
Dhaka, Feb 17, 2026 (Tuesday): The Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) hosted a Freshers’ Reception for its 2025–2026 session members and a Farewell Reception for the 2024–2025 Executive Committee at the TSC Auditorium of the University of Dhaka. The event also featured the official announcement of the new 21-member Executive Committee for the 2025–2026 session.
Dr. Md. Azharul Islam Sheikh, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, attended as the Chief Guest, while Professor Dr. Mohammad Monjurul Karim, Moderator of DURS and faculty member of the Department of Microbiology, was present as the Special Guest.
Other distinguished attendees included Md. Johir Rayhan, Lecturer of the Department of Finance; Mohammad Mahbub Kaiser, Assistant Professor of the Department of Sociology; Orin Shaila Nusrat Sheikh, Part-time Professor and PhD Researcher at the University of Ottawa; Romana Papri, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies; Farzana Basar, Director of TSC; Tanzin Ahsan, Research Consultant of DURS; and Md. Assaduzzaman, former General Secretary of the organization.
The program began with a formal welcome for the newly elected members, who were greeted with flowers and souvenirs. The outgoing Executive Committee members were honored with crests in recognition of their contributions and formally bid farewell. Several members were also awarded for their outstanding performance during the previous term. Outgoing President Md. Fahim Hasan Mahadi delivered a farewell speech reflecting on the achievements and activities of the 2024–2025 session and offered guidance to the incoming committee.
The 21-member Executive Committee for 2025–2026 was officially announced, with Humayra Anjir, a postgraduate student of the Department of Crafts, elected as President, and Md. Monowar Hossain, a postgraduate student of the Institute of Statistical Research and Training (ISRT), elected as General Secretary.
Other committee members include: Vice-President (Research) Md. Mukter Hossain; Vice-President (Admin & Event) Jannatul Ferdous Mim; Joint Secretary (Research) Nusrat Jahin Nova; Joint Secretary (Admin & Event) Adrita Maliat; Treasurer Ahasan Ullah; Organising Secretary Shamima Tahera; Office and IT Secretary Mahmia Alam Santa; Event Management Secretary Sheikh Jamil Hasan; Publication Secretary Mst. Sadia Islam; Press and Promotion Secretary Mosa Khadiza Akter Mou; International Affairs Secretary Nijam Uddin Sarkar; Career Development Secretary Tabassum Mim; Social Welfare & Culture Secretary Aritri Chakrabarty Praptee; and Executive Members Ashrafi Zannat Promi, Mst. Farjana Rahman, Jubayet Rashed, Md. Sami, Md. Asif Mehmud Ababil, and Saker Hossain Efaz.
Later, Tanzin Ahsan conducted an interactive guidance session, which was highly appreciated by participants. An open discussion followed, allowing new members to share their expectations and aspirations, creating a motivating and inspiring environment.
The program concluded with speeches by newly elected President Humayra Anjir and General Secretary Md. Monowar Hossain.
Speakers emphasized the importance of student engagement in research, creativity, and academic excellence. The day ended with cultural performances and cordial interactions among attendees.
